CLC 'Big Day Out' - Shepparton, 25 May 2019
Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley is known as a successful destination for settlement and integration in the community. Marked by successive waves of settlement since the 1920’s, the region is a harmonious community of Greeks, Italians, Albanians, Turkish, Sudanese, Punjabi, Iraqi, Filipino and Congolese communities, to name a few. Shepparton has four mosques, a Sikh Temple, a growing Buddhist community as well as having a well-established Christian community. Multi-faith and cultural diversity operate seamlessly in Shepparton, as we will hear about in this year's 'Day Out' at Mons. Peter Jeffrey Hall, 121 Knight St, Shepparton.

Pope Francies becomes first pope to give TED talk
A single individual is enough for hope to exist, and that individual can be you, says His Holiness Pope Francis in this searing TED Talk delivered directly from Vatican City.
In a hopeful message to people of all faiths, to those who have power as well as those who don't, the spiritual leader provides illuminating commentary on the world as we currently find it and calls for equality, solidarity and tenderness to prevail. "Let us help each other, all together, to remember that the 'other' is not a statistic, or a number," he says. "We all need each other."
Caring for Creation
CLC take as our inspiration the leadership of Pope Francis' in his Encyclical Laudato Si.
"I urgently appeal, then, for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. We need a conversation that includes everyone, since the environment challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all" (#14).
Fr Andrew Hamilton SJ has described the distinctive contribution of the Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si, as being to make 'respect for the environment a priority in Catholic life, and to justify that place by making it centrally in Catholic reflection on the human condition'.
Responding to Our National Priority - To Act Against Poverty & Marginalisation

Ecology, justice, and poverty – Laudato Si proposes a new “integral ecology”, which responds in a unified way to the two greatest challenges of our world today: “we are faced not with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental” (LS 139). Therefore, “we have to realize that a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” (LS 49).
